[Solved] Continuing numbering

This is similar to a previous question I've posted, but I need a little more help.

I want to continue numbering after my bullet points and a decent space between the questions/paragraphs, but the numbering seems to restart at an indented position.

I understand that I should use the text body setting, rather than the line spacing setting. So I've gone to Format>Paragraph>Indents and spacing and made the space below the paragraph 0.90 cm.

But I can't get the numbering to restart: I either get another bullet, or an indented and restarted number.

I couldn't upload an attachment - the file didn't appear in the filename box, for some reason, but here is a link to the document:

I'm sorry but that seems to be an html file---essentially just a picture to us. Can you try another upload to the forum or perhaps try uploading to a file-sharing service such as Dropbox or Mediafire? thanks

Got it, thanks.

I don't understand your point about bullets. I don't see any.

Turn on /View /non printing characters. Now delete the Shift Enter (left pointing hooked arrow) at the end of "What did you argue?" and press Enter and your numbering will continue at the right level. Modify your Default paragraph style to have, on its Indents and Spacing tab, whatever space you require "Below Paragraph"

You should also read up on how to use Styles. This document may be helpful

I still have not figured out exactly what you want but does this look a bit like it?

Note that I have removed all direct formatting, formatted the title with Header1 and
I am interweaving Header2 and Text Indent Styles to get each question.

I have removed all of the unneeded paragraphs. (no blank lines with a pilcrow).

That was very helpful thanks Roy. In a few taps I was able to solve what I hadn't been able to do in hours.

I'll attach the final version of my document.

By the way AOO Writer does appear different to MS Word in this aspect of functionally - am I right in saying that?

Yes. OpenOffice Writer is not a clone of MS Word, although it achieves much of the same functionality. Many of the problems brought to this Forum come because users expect OpenOffice components to work in exactly the same way as MS Office components; you will observe that a large number of requests concern how to turn OO into an MS Office clone. Politeness prevents me (and I think many Forum Volunteers) giving them the short answer "If there is an application that does what you want, acquire it and use it."

I must be missing something . Nov '16 Quiz (2).odt looks the same, in principle, to the original file.

Q3 and subsequent questions open aligned with the earlier numbering. In the original file Q3 was indented to align with the text of the questions.

Weird, unless I misunderstand completely (a not unknown state) the alignments look the same to me in LibreOffice, that is the numbers align as expected.

In OO, Q3 was indented, caused by a Shift-Enter at the end of the last line of Q2 texts.

I may have accidentally made a save to the original file and introduced a pilcrow. :(.

I still like my approach :) Numbered headings are so useful.
